2006 Top Ten Movies - II

Hello again! Here's the second (or first?) part of my 2006 Top Ten Movies.
5 - Firewall (2006)
Really good thriller, really good cast. I love Harrison Ford since Indiana Jones, and Paul Bettany is excellent, specially here. The story is a little predictable in the beginning, but becomes more and more interesting as the movie goes on.
4 - Inside Man (2006)
I don't like bank robbery movies, but I liked this one very much. Clive Owen's monologue, in the first scene, is well done, and definitively caught my attention to the movie. There are enough twist and turns to get you wondering what the hell is going on, and the end is surprising.
3 - The Mask of the Zorro (1998)
I've talked about this movie here.
2 - V for Vendetta (2005)
When I first saw the thrillers of this movie, I got the wrong idea. I thought it was a stupid, delirious story about the future. I friend watched it and convinced me to do so. I'm so glad she did it, because I was missing one of the most inspiring movies ever.
It's really about personal strength, and the power of one; about how one single person can influence the destiny of millions. It also has a few things to say about "government power" x "people safety", and how much are we willing to give up, in order to avoid (real or imaginary) danger.
1 - Ice Age - The Meltdown (2006)
I cannot tell you how much I love the Ice Age movies. Today I still think Ice Age is the best animation movie ever. Four years was a long time to wait for a sequel, but it was worth it. The Meltdown is as hilarious as the first one, and has the same emotional connection with the characters and their stories.
The new characters are nice and funny, although none of them is as sweet as the rescued baby from Ice Age. I remember I almost cried at the end, with the baby's farewell. This one also brought tears to my eyes, when Manfred and Ellie recall the slaughter of their respective families. There are other emotional moments, but I won't spoil it
The opossums carry out some of the funniest moments of the movie, en even the singing sequences (I hate singing sequences) are funny. If you haven't seen Ice Age and Ice Age - The Meltdown, I strongly recommend you to watch it - ASAP. Yes, it's that good.
Bonus Track:
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988)
Tagline from IMDB: Nice guys finish last. Meet the winners.
This is a pretty old movie, but I just saw it last month. It's one of the best comedies ever. Steve Martin and Michael Caine are superb in the role of two different men with the same profession: ripping off wealthy women. Caine is a refined gentleman, while Martin is a small scammer.
These two con-men start a sort of competition; the first one who manage to extract $50.000 from an innocent, naif, rich girl, will get the town all for himself. Off course, things will get ugly, and you'll be laughing so hard you'll cry.
