2007 Latin MTV Awards Nominees

MTV Latin America has already announced the nominees for the 2007 Latin MTV Awards (Los Premios MTV Latin America 2007). Mexican pop artist belinda tops the list with five nominations, followed by Shakira's pal Alejandro Sanz and the Argentinian band Babasonicos, with four nominations each.

Mexico's Division Minúscula, Julieta Venegas, rock legend Maná, Panda, Paulina Rubio, Gustavo Cerati, Argentinian pop group Miranda! and Chile's Kudai got three nominations each.

The event will air from El Palacio de Los Deportes in Mexico City, on Thursday,
October 18th at 11:00 p.m. ET (10:00 p.m. México, 11:00 p.m. Argentina and
Chile). The Latin MTV Awards will take place in Mexico City for the second time .

This year's show adds three new award categories, including the "Fashionista Award," for best dressed celebrity; "Best Urban Artist Award" for best R&B, rap, hip hop or reggaeton; and the "Influencia Award" honoring an artist for their influence and trajectory in the music industry.

Again, nice to see Uruguayan musicians in the list of nominees. 2 nominees in 3 categories, both excellent rock bands:

I'll post some videos of them for you, later. I really like both of them, and I hope they get an award. One thing that I've found weird is that there isn't a single Brazilian musician in the list. Maybe it's because Brazil has its own MTV Brazil (which is crappy), but I'm not sure. To be fair, the number of categories is pretty short, so... whatever. ;)

Since Chapín from La Onda Tropical told I was bashing all of his favorites in the list of nominees for the 2007 Latin Grammy Awards, I won't comment on the nominees I dislike, this time. :) I'll just list my own favorites here, so he can bash them in his blog! Have fun, compadre! :D

And that's about it. There's a couple of other nominees that I like, but they aren't Latinos. I have only mentioned Alejandro Sanz because he's with Shakira in the video. ;)

Hilary Duff will perform live at the show, and I can't figure why. Hilary Duff?? And that's not all; Avril Lavigne and The Cure will also perform at the show.

Café Tacuba is the only Latin performer confirmed so far. I think performers at the LATIN MTV Awards should be Latinos. I know English speaking stars have many fans in Latin America, but it would be so much better having more space for Latin artists!

It's been said that additional performers and presenters will be announced shortly. Let's see how
many of them will be Latin.
