About The Simpsons Movie Boycotted in Latin America and the Plane Crash in Brazil
Filed in archive Latin News , Latina Musings on July 24, 2007
A few days ago I wrote about The Simpsons Movie Boycotted in Latin America. I finished the post with this phrase:
We really don't count for sh... in this world.
The author of Guanabee (in their own words: Guanabee is commentary on media, pop culture and Entertainment. Spicy coverage for the Latino in you) wrote about the movie boycott, plus this:
Understandably, fans are disappointed, but we think Latina Viva gives away a little too much power when they say,
We really don't count for sh... in this world.
Don't let Matt Groening make you feel like shit. What would Homer do? Say "mmmmmm, dooonuts."
:) She (or he, I'm not sure) is absolutely right. At the moment, I didn't realize, but it was kind of ridiculous to end a post about The Simpsons Movie being boycotted in Latin America, with such a desperate, sad remark.
The thing is I was pretty sad. I had just finished another post about the plane crash in Brazil, and the tragedy was a close call for me; I have friends and relatives in Porto Alegre, where the plane departed. For a while, I didn't know if there were somebody related to me among the victims.
Luckily for me, there wasn't. But I can't stop thinking about the people who was not so lucky; who lost friends and relatives in an "accident" that could have been avoided. And it's disgusting to see how the authorities in Brazil are more concerned about blaming somebody other than themselves, than about taking responsibilities and finding solutions to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
Anyway, I'm not trying to excuse myself; I just wanted to explain why I wrote something so ridiculous, that was totally not justified by the post where I wrote it. The "We really don't count for sh... in this world." was the expression of my feelings about the plane crash and how the Brazilian authorities are handling it. Why I ended up letting it out on the post about the Simpsons Movie, it's a mystery. :)
Maybe it was because the attitude of the company in charge of the Simpsons Movie's dubs, shows the same lack of respect for the public, as the disrespect shown by the Brazilian authorities. But that's a story I'll tell in another post.
I want to thank Guanabee's author, for calling my attention for this; for making me realize I was letting this situation make me feel down. Thanks! :)
I'll be more careful in the future, and I'll try to avoid mixing things up like this!
