Blog Day 2007

So, Blog Day is here again. The proposal is simple: find 5 new Blogs that you find interesting, and write about them. You're supposed to notify the bloggers before you write, but I'll have to break this rule. You see, I'm always late for everything, and Blog Day is not an exception! :)

Here are the blogs I've chosen. They are not really "new", but they are new to me; I've recently discovered them, and I love each and every one.

Bilingual in the Boonies

Carrie is a story teller; everything she writes is very sabroso. She's also very funny:

"Oh my god! They've got condensed milk in a squeeze tube!''
That was me yesterday scaring the young woman who happened to be passing the Hispanic Foods section of Wal-Mart.

Sexy Spanish Club in Buenos Aires

I've already presented Maya's blog in this post: Learn Spanish Online For Free And Have Fun. Her blog is an excellent source to learn about the life in Buenos Aires. She recently came to Montevideo, and wrote a beautiful post:

But being there on dark days added to the outrageousness of the architecture. There are some really crazy buildings there, like nothing I've ever seen, even in BA. And many of the grandest buildings are concrete gray-no paint-which, when framed by dark clouds makes the city look like a Batman movie set.

Rachel's Tavern

Race, Gender, and Sexuality from a Sociological Perspective. Along with Racialicious, this is one of the best blogs about those issues I've ever seen. Rachel has the ability of talking about race and racism (and many other sensitive topics) in the most objective, crystal clear way:

I tell students that there are many channels that are White Entertainment Television-they are called NBC, ABC,
CBS, FOX, the Home and Garden Channel, TLC, etc. (...) Part of being white means not having to think about whiteness and the opportunities it grants. In fact, even thinking about whiteness makes many of whites uncomfortable, which is why the reaction to BET (Black Entertainment Television) is so strong.

Latin Gossip

Latin Gossip showcase the world of gossip, Latin style. I'll let "El Gossiper" to present the blog:

Latin Gossip will also serve as a platform to introduce, present, and support latin celebrities because I'm an Equal Opportunity basher, lover, hater, and promoter.

I've been known to mix Spanish and English words in the same sentence, so if you feel guilty about stalking the Latin Gossip website, remind yourself that you're enhancing your language skills. Lets begin with Lesson One: 'water' in Spanish is 'agua' and 'Tom Cruise' in Spanish is 'loco.'

Blog Latina

I was immediately attracted to the blog, because of their tag line: modern latina= beauty + brains

The blog is excellent; there you find things like Top 10 Bright Jeans From Indie Designers, and you learn about Dominican Hair Salons.

Happy Blog Day 2007!
