Spanish Broadcasting System ("SBS") and WSBS-Mega TV Channel 22 announced today the launching of the novela (Brazilian version of soap operas) Chocolate con Pimienta (Chocolate with Pepper). The product has been acquired from well-known Brazilian television distributor TV Globo. The novela will debut on Mega TV on Monday, April 23rd at 6:00 p.m. The program will air Monday through Friday, 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. ET.
"Chocolate con Pimienta is a fiery romantic melodrama that we believe will be a huge hit in Miami - a market known for its exotic tastes and spicy Latin flavor", commented Cynthia Hudson Fernández, SBS Chief Creative Officer and Executive Vice President. "TV Globo distributes television content to 130 countries around the world, and Chocolate con Pimienta is one of the company's most talked about series in recent times. The show has resonated extremely well with Latin audiences in several international markets, and South Floridians should prepare themselves for a compelling joyride of TV melodrama that includes a little bit of pepper and a lot of chocolate!"
Chocolate con Pimienta is yet another TV Globo novela that takes place in a past era, this time the 1920's. The attention to detail is masterful - Globo is well known for the amazing quality of its products.
The plot passes through two different stages within a seven year period, beginning in 1922 when gangsters from the south kill Ana's father. The story then moves to the mystical city of Ventura, a town dependent on its famous chocolate factory for survival.
Ana moves to Ventura with her grandmother Carmen (Laura Cardoso), uncle Margarido (Osmar Prado), cousins Timóteo (Marcello Novaes) and Marcia (Drica Moraes), and a so-called friend, Dália (Carla Daniel), where they all live in humble surroundings on a small piece of land. To help her new family, Ana starts working for Mr. Ludovico Canto e Mello (Ary Fontoura), the owner of the infamous chocolate factory. The plot soon thickens as Ana's love life heats up.
I've seen it, and I liked it. Chocolate con Pimienta is romantic, entertaining, funny, a little dramatic; and it's delightful for those who enjoy antique scenarios, old cars and vintage clothing.
