Politicians aren't the only ones looking at the Latino market. Disney has casted a bunch of Latin stars for their upcoming live-action comedy, "South of the Border". The list includes Andy Garcia, Salma Hayek, George Lopez, Cheech Marin, Paul Rodriguez, Placido Domingo, Edward James Olmos and Eddie "Piolin" Sotelo. Nice, hu? As far as I can remember, this will be the first animated Disney production with so many Latin celebrities.
This is a movie about talking dogs (and other talking animals, apparently). The leading character is "a pampered Beverly Hills chihuahua named Chloe accustomed to riding in a purse. While on vacation in Mexico, she gets lost and must rely on her friends to help her get back home."
A chihuahua in Mexico. Very, very Latin style. How clever.
Of course, the leading voice will be played by... someone who isn't Latino. Yep. Drew Barrymore has been cast as the lead voice in "South of the Border". Why? Well, I really don't know! Maybe they need someone non-Latino to assure they'll attract non-Latino audiences as well. Who the hell knows. I sure don't.
The movie will be directed by Raja Gosnell.
