How to Soothe a Sunburn

I'm on a home remedies kick, and the one on chapped lips and this one are on request.
* vinegar: My mom swears by this one. Apple vinegar or white vinegar is best. For large areas you can dilute it in water.
* Lemon juice: Not straight! Dilute it with water and then apply it to your sunburn with a cotton ball.
* Aloe: It comes in gel form, but if you have an aloe vera plant you can just cut a piece and rub the sap on your burnt skin.
* Carrots: You can grate a carrot and put it on your sunburn.
* Oatmeal: Definitely let it cool first before you put it on.
* Apple: You can mash some with a mortar and pestle and make a paste to use.
* Cabbage: You can make a paste with a cabbage leaf and a bit of olive oil, too.
* Cool shower: It will feel good and calm the itching. Just make sure to pat dry so you don't further irritate your skin.
Be sure to check out the link I found for oatmeal. It has a pretty cool list of other remedies as well.
If you have more ideas on dealing with sunburns, leave a comment so we can get a good list going before summer.

When I get a bad sunburn I put Rawleigh Medicated Ointment on it. It’s been around for years! My grandmothers grandmother used it. Now I use it. You buy it in a 5 oz. can. When you put it on, it just soothes the burning away almost instantly. The next day you have no blistering at all.

start drinking green tea or pomegranate extract or juice. Both have soothing anti-inflammatory benefits – better yet, they’re both strong antioxidants, which means that they can help mitigate some of the unseen damage that UV exposure is doing to your sunburned skin.
