How to Stop Teenage Dating Abuse
Filed in archive Latin Chat by Eliane on February 13, 2007

Unfortunately, teen dating abuse is common.
More often than not, the abused chica thinks it's her fault, and she's so embarrassed she won't tell anybody what's going on.
She forgives her abusive boyfriend over and over, just to be abused again.
This girl will probably grow up to be an abused woman, and we know how those stories end.
But things don't have to go like that.
You can stop the abuse now!
The National Domestic Violence Hotline and Liz Claiborne Inc. announced Thursday, during a press conference at the National Press Club in Washington DC, the launch of LoveIsRespect.org.
LoveIsRespect.org is a 24-hour national web-based and telephone helpline created to help teens (ages 13-18) experiencing dating abuse. The website is the online home of the National Teen Dating Abuse Helpline (NTDAH).

Not sure if you (or your friend) are being abused? Ask yourself if your novio (or your friend's boyfriend):
•Embarrass you with put-downs or gossip about you?
•Looks at you or acts in ways that scare you?
•Controls what you do, who you see, talk to, where you go, or what you wear?
•Stops you from seeing your friends or family members?
•Makes all of the decisions?
•Prevents you from working or attending school?
•Acts like the abuse is no big deal, is your fault, or even denies doing it?
•Forces you to have sex?
•Intimidates you with guns, knives or other weapons?
•Shoves you, slaps you, chokes you, or hits you?
•Threatens to kill you or harms themselves if you break up?
•Monitors your computer or phone use, or text and IM you excessively?
If you answered yes to any of the questions above, there may be abuse.
Now, listen to me, chica: you don't have to endure being abused by your chico.
It doesn't matter if the abuse is physical, psychological or both - you can stop it. If you don't want to discuss this problem with your parents, and you don't know what to do, visit the LoveIsRespect.org website and ask for help. You'll receive immediate, confidential assistance. They even have a one-on-one private chat room, and a escape button for emergencies.
You can also call toll free, 866-331-9474. That goes for parents, too. In the website you'll find more information and guidance. No names. No judging. Only help - anytime you need it. Please seek help!
