In Brazil: "No YouTube for You!" - Censorship is Back
Filed in archive Latin News by Eliane on January 9, 2007

The Brazilian model Daniela Cicarelli has pissed off way too many people. Being a public person, she's obviously stupid. I've defended her when she was criticized because of the video, but she has gone too far. On the wrong direction.
Yesterday, ISP companies started to block YouTube in Brazil. Apparently, the Court order was only to block the model's sex video; but, as I've said, that's virtually impossible to accomplish. So, the only thing that could be done to follow the Court order, was blocking the access to the entire YouTube site. And blocked it was.
So, this is how the story goes:
1 - You have sex on a public place - a beach on Spain. As far as I know, that's a criminal offense.
2 - You are caught on video (there are even people who say this was intended as a marketing strategy). The video is shown on TV (in Spain) and is distributed on Internet (trough several sites all over the world).
3 - You file a lawsuite, in Brazil, wich is accepted by some stupid judge.
4 - ONE site is blocked. Thousands of videos become unavailable. Millions of people are denied their right to access information.
Basically, because of a couple of morons (the model and her boyfriend, along with the judge), who chose to have sex on a public place, censorship is back in Brazil. A blast from the past, and civil rights can go to hell.
If anybody knows where's the sense on that, please enlighten me.
