Latin Grammys 2007 Nominees

Latin Grammys 2007 Nominees

Well, the Latin Grammys 2007 are here. I've found a lot of nominations that I liked, and had a few nice surprises. I'll comment some of the nominations:

1 – Record Of The Year

Bello Embustero (Beautiful Liar) – Beyoncé & Shakira
Nena – Miguel Bosé con Paulina Rubio
La Excepcion – Gustavo Cerati
La Llave De Mi Corazón – Juan Luis Guerra 440
Tu Recuerdo – Ricky Martin featuring La Mari De Chambao y Tommy Torres

Beyoncé Latina, again? Anyway, I don't like this song at all. I'm not familiar with the other songs, but I would like to see Juan Luis Guerra as the winner – he got 5 nominations and his music is awesome.

2 – Album Of The Year

Papito – Miguel Bosé con Varios Artistas
Residente O Visitante – Calle 13
La Llave De Mi Corazón – Juan Luis Guerra 440
MTV Unplugged – Ricky Martin
El Tren De Los Momentos – Alejandro Sanz

Again, Juan Luis Guerra is my favorite. I don't like Miguel Bosé nor Calle 13; Ricky Martin is too cheesy for me, and "El Tren de los Momentos" is a nice album, but I felt it's not a very interesting one.

3 – Song Of The Year

Bella Traición – belinda
La Llave De Mi Corazón – Juan Luis Guerra
Labios Compartidos – Maná
Tengo – Franco De Vita
Todo Cambió – Camila

Labios Compartidos is awful. Maná haven't been the same good band for a while, since "Mariposa Traicionera" – which makes me wanna puke, by the way.

7 – Best Pop Album By A Duo Or Group With Vocal

Adelantando – Jarabe De Palo
Esta Es Mi Vida – Jesse & Joy
El Mundo Se Equivoca – La Quinta Estación
El Disco De Tu Corazón – Miranda!
Solo Paz – Porpartes

Miranda is an interesting band – although sometimes they are pretty annoying – and Jarabe de Palo is always good. But "El Mundo Se Equivoca" is by far the best nominee. La Quinta Estación is one of the best bands I've seen in the last three or four years. Excellent lyrics, nice melodies, strong and pleasant vocals. They're not Latinos (they are Spanish) but what the hell; if Beyonce can be nominated for the Latin Grammy Awards, so can a Pop Band from Spain.

I'm very happy of seeing 2 nominations for Uruguay:

12 – Best Rock Song
Yendo A La Casa De Damián – El Cuarteto De Nos

El Cuarteto is a myth in Uruguayan rock (Uruguay has a very good and popular rock scenario); they've been around for more than 20 years. They are famous for making all their lyrics in rhymes, and for creating satirical, humorous and absurd songs.

21 – Best Singer-Songwriter Album
12 Segundos De Oscuridad – Jorge Drexler

I didn't particularly like this album, although it's a soft, poetic album. Even so, 12 Segundos de Obscuridad (the song) is beautiful, beautiful, and I think Drexler deserves the nomination. Too bad he's competing with the Brazilian Caetano Veloso, who is a music legend and a though competitor.

There's a lot of categories for Brazilian music. I like almost all of the nominees; when you get people like Zeca Baleiro, Carlinhos Brown, Lenine, Paulo Ricardo, Ivete Sangalo and Skank competing for Best Brazilian Contemporary Pop Album, it's really hard to choose.

A special mention for the Best Romantic Music Album category. It's really funny to see Cauby Peixoto (a tacky, trashy and cheesy romantic singer from the late 60's) nominated with and album called Eternamente Cauby Peixoto – 55 Anos De Carreira (Eternally Cauby – 55 Years of Career). LOL

You can see the full 8th Annual Latin Grammy Awards Nominations List here. Juan Luis Guerra leads the nominees with 5 nominations; Calle 13 and Ricky Martin got 4 nominations each.

The 8th Annual Latin Grammy Awards ceremony will take place on November 8, at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The ceremony will be broadcast live on the Univision Network from 8 – 11 p.m. ET/PT.
