Here's what I've been reading this week:
Latina Lista:
Can Young Latinas Get the Message About Healthy Relationships From a Comic Book?
The Virginia Health Department is distributing the mini-book Gracias Papá, a comic book, as an effort to stop Latin teenage girls from getting pregnant. I'm not sure this will work.
Vivir Latino:
In Texas, they say 'no' to Latino grocery
"A campaign to boycott the opening of a grocery store catering to Latinos is heating up in the town of Farmers Branch, Texas." It has "discrimination" written all over it.
Hispanic Trending:
Latinos Online
Lower education levels and limited English ability are keeping Latinos off-line.
La Bloga:
Spring Cleaning and Returning to the Source
"Spiritually, emotionally and physically, it's time for me to clear out the cobwebs, shake loose from the ennui of winter and that long cold sleep. To that end, I'd like to offer a recommendation, Jambalaya." A lovely excerpt and review, by Lisa Alvarado.
Nash Library News:
Latino literature databases: free trial through April 30, 2007
"Latino Literature includes nearly 100,000 pages of fiction and poetry and nearly 400 plays. It represents the Chicano culture and all the different ethnicities of Latin American writers with a Hispanic background, working in the United States." There's also a huge Latin American Women Writers database. If only I had the time to browse all that!
