One of the most fascinating places on Earth is Machu Picchu in Peru. It is one of the new Seven Wonders of the World. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The old ruined Inca city sits at an elevation of about 2,400 meters (almost 7,900 feet). It dates back to the 15th Century, to Pre-Columbia Inca rule in the Andes.
About 400,000 tourists a year visit Machu Picchu. That doesn't mean it is an easy trip. If you decide to trek up the Inca trail to get there, that trip takes about four days. You can also ride a train into the city; that takes four hours...
