Odd Award for Paulina Rubio
Filed in archive Latin Music , Latin News on April 17, 2007
The Mexican singer Paulina Rubio will receive the Tarabu de Oro award for the 200,000 downloads of her music to mobile phones in Mexico, Televisa (Mexican communications group) announced yesterday.
The "Golden Girl" is the first artist who will receive this award, granted by Televisa's online music store, Tarabu. Since mid 2006, Tarabu has sold near 1.5 million ringtones to mobile phone users in Mexico. Paulina Rubio and her album Ananda's ringtones reached 200,000 downloads in that period.
Tarabu initiated its activity in 2005, and the online store has taken control of a good part of the Mexican market of paid music download from the Internet, with a catalog of nearly 500,000 songs.
I guess an odd award is better than no award at all, don't you think?
