I love pozole. This Sunday my husband, my sister-in-law, and I went to eat pozole at a local restaurant-but the portion was tiny!
When we asked the waiter if he had brought us the large portion, he assured us he had, and explained that pozole at this particular establishment is served as a soup meant to accompany a meal.
This spurred a conversation among the three of us as to the role pozole has on a menu. In our experience, pozole has always been a stew served as a main dish. To us, it was like serving a mini steak as an appetizer.
But then we got to talking about the pozole of our childhood, and we realized pretty quickly that pozole has many variations. And restaurants in various places offer two, three, and even four serving sizes.
So maybe the meager portion is not so outrageous. Still, we're going back to the restaurants where pozole is the star of the meal, and not just an extra.
