Quinceanera: The term translates into English as "fifteen years." It's a coming of age celebration in many Latin societies for a girl on her 15th birthday - something similar to a "Sweet Sixteen" party in America.
Quinceanera is a big deal in places like Los Angeles - where there are whole businesses built around holding quinceanera parties or printing quinceanera invitations the same way you might print invitations for a high school graduation.
So what do you get a Latina when she comes of age? What do 15 year old girls do in Latin culture? Does the word shopping ring any bells?
If you're looking for the perfect quinceanera gift, try prepaid credit cards. Few things make a girl feel grown up like being able to pay with their own plastic. Talk about a rite of passage! There are few things you can give a teenage girl that rank up there with freedom at the mall.
