Jennifer Olvera recently recounted her trip to the Riviera Maya for the LA Times. Having spent much of the last two weeks dealing with the blizzard of '09 and the ice storm that followed it up the East Coast, climbing Mayan ruins and laying on the beach in Cozomol sounds pretty inviting to me.
The Mayan Riviera on the eastern side of the Yucatán Peninsula is one of Mexico's major tourism draws. This district has been expanded in recent years. Historically, it runs from the city of Playa del Carmen in the north to the village of Tulum in the south. But Puerto Morelos (a little north of Playa del Carmen) and the town of Felipe Carrillo Puerto (about 25 miles south of Tulum) have both been getting included in recent tourist promotes for the region.
Jennifer Olvera's piece gives an entertaining glimpse of the activity and luxury that a stay in one of the region's resorts can provide.
