I was reading that Guadalajara is going to add ethanol to their gasoline. The idea is to have cleaner air, and boost the sugar cane and sorghum industries.
Honestly, I had no idea what sorghum was before today. And it's the fifth most important cereal on the planet!
The US is a huge producer and exporter of sorghum, and Mexico takes the lion's share of those exports. As consumers, we eat sorghum in syrup, cookies, unleavened bread, cakes, couscous, porridge, and malt drinks (like beer).
In terms of nutrition, sorghum is higher in calcium than most cereals; it has iron; and it's gluten free, making it a good choice for those with wheat allergies.
Unfortunately, sorghum products are specialty products, so they're a bit pricier. An alternative is to look for stores that sell Indian imports, and look for it as jowar, jwaar, or juwar.
So... good for the car and for the gut. Not bad.
