Spanish singers Miguel Bosé and Alejandro Sanz, along with the Colombians Shakira, Juanes and Carlos Vives, are working with the Alas Foundation, endorsing an international campaign in favor of the victims of the earthquake in Peru, which will begin next week.
On August 15, Peru suffered an earthquake that reached 7.9 degrees of magnitude in the Richter scale, which left over 500 dead and about 60,000 damaged.
"Peru needs us", said Araceli Ruano, executive director of ALAS, in the official press release that announces the campaign. The fund rising will be supported by different Latin American mass media, which have donated the advertising spaces for the aid call.
"We're united by the intention of building a great network of civil solidarity that could help in this catastrophe and that will remain active", Ruano explained.
The ALAS foundation (NGO supported by the most outstanding Latin American intellectuals, artists and industrialists), wants to support over 70,000 Peruvian families. The totality of the funds raised will be donated to the Red Cross.
The campaign will cover Latin America, the United States and Spain, and the list of participants is very long:
Juanes, Ricardo Arjona, Carlos Vives, Diego Torres, Thalía, Alejandro Fernández, Gustavo Cerati, Daniela Mercury, Wyclef Jean, Jeremías, Malú, Diego Uma (Babasónicos), Fonseca, Rafael, Timbiriche, Aleks Syntek, Chayanne, Reyli, Catupecumachu, Ricardo Montaner, Beto Cuevas, AB Cumbia All Starts, Julieta Venegas, Benny Ibarra, Lucero, Daddy Yankee, Omar Alfano and Fidel Nadal are combining efforts to help Peruvians.
