Munich's Filmfest - "Muenchen 2007", Germany's largest summer film festival, begins next friday (June 22). Latin America is participating with many films from different countries.
In the Visiones Latinoamericanas (Latin American Visions) section we find young, new directors, whose productions are progressively replacing the work of an older generation of film makers.
Several Argentinian productions will be exhibited at the Gasteig cultural complex; for example: Pablo Trapero's "Born and Bred" (2006), a film about an architect whose family was killed in a car accident, and flees to the wide open spaces of Patagonia to forget.
Another "Argentinian road movie" is Carlos Sorín's "The Road to San Diego" (2006), in which a young woodsman from the north goes on a pilgrimage to Buenos Aires to give his sick idol, Diego Maradona a present with healing powers.
Lucia Puenzo, daughter of Luis Puenzo (author of "The Official History"), will debut in Munich with her first film :"XXY" (2007), winner of this year's Best Film award at the Semaine de la Critique in Cannes.
Nicholas Entel's "In Orchesta Tipica: Tango or Death" (2006), features a group of students in a suburb of Buenos Aires, who play tango music.
The Mexican Arturo Ripstein, whose films are exhibited in the Film Fest since 1989, will present "Sodom Carnival" (2006), a film about a brothel where poetry, revolution, religion and prostitution converge.
The Peruvian Judith Vélez brings "The Test" (2006), a tape about a young woman who travels to remote cities in the Andes in the search of her father. Francisco Lombardi presents "Black Butterfly" (2005), a film where two women investigating the murder of a judge find a network of political corruption.
The Latin American Section also includes two Brazilian productions: Helvécio Ratton's "Baptism of Blood" (2006), the story of a group of young people who were tortured and killed during the military regime, and "In Search Of The Promised Land" (2007 - Photo), Alexandre Rampazzo's documentary about the destruction of the rain forests and natural resources.
Another Brazilian, Alexander Landes, follows Evo Morales journey to Bolivia's presidency in "Cocalero" (2006). Cuban Pavel Giroud participates with "The Silly Age" (2006), which follows a young boy's first steps to manhood, in 1958's Havana .
The Munich's Filmfest - "Muenchen 2007" opens on June 22 with the Israeli film The Band's Visit. The Festival is screening 234 films from 40 countries, including the Cannes Gold Palm winner "4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days" (Cristian Mingiu), and Volker Schlndorff's last production, "Ulzhan".
