The George Lopez Show Canceled – Race Issues?

The George Lopez Show Canceled - Race Issues?

"The George Lopez Show" has been canceled, without previous notice. "TV just became really, really white again," Lopez said.

He's blaming the cancellation on race issues.

"I get kicked out for a…caveman and shows that I out-performed because I'm not owned by (ABC Television Studios)…So a…Chicano can't be on TV but a…caveman can?" Lopez said. "And a Chicano with an audience already? You know when you get in this that shows do not last forever, but this was an important show and to go unceremoniously like this hurts. One hundred seventy people lost their jobs."

Hum. It's sad to know that so many people have lost their jobs, but unfortunately, that's not unheard of. I'm not really sure "Chicanos can't be on TV" is the reason why the show was canceled. Lopez himself has said Steve McPherson, ABC president of prime-time entertainment, called him over the weekend to explain that "financially" the show wasn't working out, that the network would lose money if it picked up the show again.

Is that really so hard to believe? Five years is not a short life for a sitcom, and "The George Lopez show" wasn't that much successful. Sure, it probably went far than any other Latino show; but I don't think you really can blame the cancellation on "race"; it's at least a doubtful statement.

Anyway, you can always expect to find some really stupid and racist remarks, in this kind of discussion. Look at what this moron have to say, in the comments of TV just got a lot 'whiter', says a canceled George Lopez:

If Lopez can only see himself as a Mexican or Latino he needs to leave the US ASAP. The ONLY reason non-whites have the freedoms and success that they have in the USA is due to the blood, kindness (i say suckerness), compassion, and curiosity of white America.

Non-whites versus white America. Yeah, this kind of stinking thinking will get us far enough, don't you think? Don't you feel sorry for those poor "Mexicans or Latinos" who can only live thanks to the compassion of white Americans?

Not to mention the notion that if you only see yourself as a Mexican or Latino, you shouldn't be in the US. I wonder what the US would be like, if all "non-Latinos" where as compassionate as the author of this comment.

  1. Dawn Ross Says:

As an African-American 50 year old woman, I am pissed that they took GL show off. I loved the humor and all the characters. What a shame!! We talk about diversity, but it’s still all about one race and the rediculous interest and humor of that culture.

  2. Eliane Says:

Well, I can’t say you’re wrong. Although I’m not sure this particular case – the GL show – was really about race, the supremacy of the “white culture” above all the others is a sad fact.

  3. Becky Garcia Says:

The George Lopez show being canceled has sadened his fans; not only the Hispanic fans, but everyone who watches the show. In response to Dawn Ross: Ms. Ross, I don’t see anyone getting upset with the historically “African-American” centered shows that are on TV not being “diverse”. I also take offense to your comment about the “ridiculous interest and humor” of our culture. Our culure, the Hispanic culture, has brought many great things to this country. Diversity does mean that a TV show should have at least one of every ethnic “figure”. Most TV shows are a vehicle for money. Money from commercials, money from advertisers, money from marketing and magazine articles and games and toys, etc.

The George Lopez show finally broke through the ceiling that we Hispanics have lived under for centuries. Hispanic families, namely, Mexican-Americans have been living in this country before it was the U.S. Our ancestors have been door mats for too long. George tried to lift up us as something more than drug dealers, gang members, maids, waiters and wetbacks and his show gets canceled without warning and without reason. Hispanics have nothing on TV that represents US. Is that fair, is that the American way? Obviously, it is.

  4. Hector Says:

Articles/Blogs such as these would only be written by a person who is not Latino/a. It was canceled due to racism. They want all T.V in America to be White.

  5. Yvette Holloway Says:

I a certainly upset that the show was canceled. It gave me a sense of sheer joy knowing that an Hispanic was covering the television market. He connected with the Mexican-American culture and I could relate to quite a few things he said in his shows. His one-liners cracked me up!

As for Dawn Ross’ blog, I am not picking on you, girl, but next time try to spell check your input. You spelled RIDICULOUS wrong. That’s how you’re supposed to spell it.

  6. Mark Says:

Boo, Hoo, his show got cancelled, GOOD! A lot of people got sick of his racism. Lopez is a bigot and was canned because white people got sick of watching somebody that disrespects the country that made him rich. His HBO special glorified DUI’s and laughing at the E Coli from Californian farms. The fact they he and others are playing the race card just highlights their own racism. If you think George Lopez got cancel because of his race, then you need to go to school and get an education.

  7. Eliane Says:

Hector, I’ve wrote a post about your comment:

    http://www.latinaviva.com/50226711/non_sense_opinion_about_the_george_lopez_show_cancellation.php

Yvette, thanks for your comment. :)

Mark, you’re being aggressive, and there’s no need to offend people like that. “White people” my a*s! As I’ve said, I don’t know if the show was canceled because of racism, and everybody is entitled to their opinions. But people like you, who thinks they can insult others because they don’t share your opinion, just make the world a worst place.

  8. Tresa Says:

I love Mr. Lopez. Perhaps he should have the show in Southwest Detroit or the Fox in Detroit. There is huge fan base there. He would get a great turn out. GOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! George

  9. Derek Says:

28Jun07-I was hoping to find that enough people got pee’d off enough that the network would reconsider. George Lopez is seriously a comic genius. I love this guy. Latino? Latina? White? Brown? who freak’n CARES!!! I’m sick of this racism. WHEN will people just get over themselves and realize, that we are ALL humans on this planet… case closed!

As for George, my friend, please let us know what we can do and how we can do it… to get your show back on.

And for those so concerned about who is what? No, I’m not Latino. I’m just a guy, who loves people. I especially love the warmth I receive from my Latino friends and family (yes, family). Hey, I even learned Spanish!

    Los quiero muchisimo! ;)

  10. marie Says:

I will certainly miss the laughter my husband and family shared watching the show. I’m sure everyone has his/her own favorite show and can relate to it because of their culture similarities. The show gave us comfort because we could relate to it. All of us at one point has or had a show I’m sure within our own culture or standards that we watched because we could relate to it. I tell you I miss Good Times, Sanford and Son, Eight is Enough, Threes Company, Cheers, Seinfield, and Friends etc. The George Lopez show I will miss more because I actually got to see more of my culture which I never saw in other shows for an actual full 30 minutes. It really feels good to see how some of us display our feelings the same way as George does. This feeling can never be taken away from me.(despite the cancellation) Good Luck George and staff you made an impact on my life and I’m certain in other people as well.

  11. marylduquette Says:

G.lopez show was watch by diversity of people who enjoyed good comedy. It cnnected us with some of his experience thatrriminded us of similiar humourous incidents that we have also experience. I’m sorry to say that this cancellation sounds more like a personal vendication. The show had the audience, capital was being marketed,so, what’s up with that? We all are children of God,it doesn’t matter what our skin color is.Judge and be judge.

  12. Matt Says:

Its no fair! I loved the George Lopez show…Why do they always cancel the good Hispanic shows such as “The Brothers Garcia” and now “George Lopez” …makes me mad!!

  13. Panhof Says:

First I loved THE GL show… But instead of WHINEING like a baby and calling the race card why not put his money where his mouth is. Produce it himself and take it to cable. Wimp!

  14. Eliane Says:

Derek, you’re the sweetest guy, I love your comment!
Marie, let’s hope that in the future we’ll have other good Latino shows! :)
    Maryl, you’re so right!
Matt, I believe this is changing. The Latin public is growing so much that is going to be impossible to keep ignoring it.
Panhof, despite your rude tone, that’s a very good idea. :)

  15. Skylar Sherman Says:

White People For The Most Part Have No Problems With Mexicans Or Latinos…I Have Read A Few Post’s Posted By Whites Stating That George Lopez Is A Racist. How Can You Be Worried About One Mexican When You Have Every Single Black Comedian From 20 Years Back To The Present Basing There Whole Show Or Stand up On Disrespecting White People….Were is All The Whites In Rage About That….Black People Have Lil Or No Respect For Whites. Wake Up, Think About It Have You Every Heard One Black Comedian Not Start Or Finish His Or Her’s Jokes WithOut Attacking White People??? I Loved The G. Lopez Show And I Didn’t Find Anything He Said About White People Half As Bad As Black Sidcoms!!

  16. Derek Says:

11Oct07-Well, not much on here about getting George back on. Saw the first shows of Caveman.

All I can say is … WTF!!! SERIOUSLY????

Cancel George L for that show???

I wonder who the actual moron is that came up with that lame idea and such a stupid show…. geeze.

BRING GEORGE BACK! (well, that’s if George wants to come back, that is.)

    :)

  17. Aaron Says:

Well, all I can say is I was surprised that the GL show was cancelled, I mean being that it was on Fridays & usually Friday & Saturdays are days where high ratings in any show are practically unheard of
And being that the GL was on for 5 years I feel that ABC should of at least given the GL producers a heads up to at least have a decent send off.
With that said, I can tell you that I never watched the show, & I really never cared too much for George Lopez comedy, that’s just me.
As far as Latinos on TV, well there really has not been a strong presence on TV as far as latinos go, I can sit & count show after succesfull show & really not see a latino presence in any of them, or a very limited one at that.
I mean, ER, how long has that show been on the air? you mean to tell me that in their universe no one latino has graduated to become an MD?, there are plenty of Nurses though, I’m not an avid watcher of the show, but I can’t recall any. In Smallville, there are no hispanic Superheroes, I love Law & Order, but Damn! I just cant recall one hispanic lawyer, the BAR exam in their timeline must be a Bi*@#, CSI Miami, well let me not even go there but I don’t know too many Irish in Miami & I’ve been to Flanningan’s a plenty here in Miami.
What I’m trying to say is that unfortunately the majority of long, succesfull shows, the main players have been, are & who knows if always will be white.
Out of all the networks out there, the one that I can honestly say provides an attempt, to give a platform for hispanics is ABC.
Jimmy Smits was awsome in NYPD Blue, so was Esai Morales, they have a decent hit with Ugly Betty (from a COLOMBIAN Novela…YAY!)Hurley is a main Character on Lost,& they had George Lopez, So I dont think that racism was in any way part of the cancellation, but as I mentioned earlier a proper send off would of been nice.
CBS is making a nice gesture with Cane, but I just don’t see this show going far, even with the talented cast they have, but if the show tanks is partly due to A) the writers & B) us latinos for not making an attempt to support a show by hispanics for hispanics.

  18. josh Says:

it wasnt because of race they wouldnt make any money i go to my school(1500 kids) nome them have heard of the show maybe a 20 or thirty have but they would lose money on the deal you faggots (i like gl to but i know its not race

  19. dustin hensley Says:

Well im 13 and the cancelation of george lopez is a load of crap ever since it has come in nick@night it has been the only show i watch and the whole race issue who really cares i mean if you laugh at a show you like it im mean im watchin the show right now. normal family with normal problems. im 13 but takin it off the air is a load of crap! let it back on there was no reason to take it off and george lopez is funny as hell thnack ou for the time and let it back on the air!!!

  20. Gabby Says:

I love the GL show!! Put it back on you f-ing rich f***s!! You all suck a$$!!! F-ing white $hit$!!!

  21. Gabby Says:

I love the GL show!! I am very disappointed that the show has been cancelled. I don’t blame George Lopez for thinking what he thinks about the cancellation of his show! It was a great show!

  22. Alberto sanchez Says:

hey GL show is the best latino comedy i’ve ever seen and i’m not saying it was racism but there’s a high posibility trust me i should know i’m latino as you can see, since the cancelled the show on abc i watch it on nick@nite it’s true their trying to make america all white again and you wanna know something? it is true because of the new f-ing law they put in AZ that latino’s can’t get jobs so we’ll go back to mexico, now you think they’re trying to make america all white? well i think that should prove George Lopez’s point no offence but most of u racist pieces of crap are the people i really hate on earth

  23. drug rehabilitation Says:

You would expect America to be the country of all possibilities but this was long ago, now it’s just the a country of terrorism and hate.

  24. David Says:

First of all i love the GL show. I’ve only been watching it for a few months on nick at nite but thats because i’m in the military and for the longest i had no cable in the barracks. I don’t know what the reason for canceling the show. If it was because of race then that’s pitiful beacuse us Hispanics has done a lot for this country. I’m Puerto Rican and i can relate to this show. I just hope that the show goes on air again.

  25. Timbo Says:

Its really sad that ABC cant see a “DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH” George Lopez and crew were and are about the funniest close to home show that I have ever seen. My family and I greatly miss the GL show. Please bring it back.

  26. BELKiS Says:

I think that was the stupidest decision ever made!how could they cancel the george lopez show?!!Thats one of the best shows i have seen.this is bullshit!

  27. robert Says:

there was no reason to stop the show cant peolpe just leave things alone it was camedy who cares who he picked on or talked about it was all for a laugh you peolpe who wear your feeligs on your shoulder should suck it up as far as racism the blacks have BET us whites cant have anythng like that hell no. i think the lopez show was great funny and alot of truth told in it. so farewell george hope to see you make a come back. try ur own MEX tv all latino all the time

  28. dustin higdon Says:

[abc sucks] they need to stop that freakin caveman show and get george lopez back ABC WILL GET THIER FREAKIN MONEY BACK! so what if you loose some money. you would have more money if you didnt cancel his show. I HOPE THAT NICK AT NIGHT WILL PICK THE GEORGE LOPEZ SHOW UP because that show was freaki awesome

  29. jackie Says:

i love ur show is funny and at the same time it is sad the best part that i liked in oneof ur show was that when u went 2 chase ur doughers boyfriend (lol)

  30. Tawnee Says:

what kind of meaning can a show about cavemen have that the George Lopez show gets canceled. I sure hope ABC is reading this. My family and I watch the show every week, and it is our favorite show. This show isn’t only entertaining, it also has meaningful episodes that deal with real life situations. It would be such a miracle if the show came back. There is absolutely now reason for replacing The George Lopez Show with a cavemen show!!!!

  31. Ada Says:

This show used to be one of my favourites, would always watch it the same time every week, would be like my own personal drug treatment after the long week of work. Then it suddenly stopped and has taken me a while to remember to search for why. I know the show wasn’t as successful as it could have been but still it’s a shame great shows get taken off air just because they might not make enough money. As for accusations of racism this is a real shame. I mean, it might be racist to accuse someone of being racist?

I loved the show back then, and now. Bring back the show!

  33. Seth Says:

America is a place where Black people can call White people “WHITE”..but White people can’t call Black people “BLACK”.
How racist. The earlier generation of whites where legally beat down to accept this hipocracy…but the new ones are OVER it. Cry the “Race” card, to get a Check, a Job, a passing Grade, or out of Jail and we “know” YOU are the real HATER. Who ever heard of anybody moving to Afro/Latin (non Spanish) Countries for a better Life and Income!!

  34. Dusty Says:

I HATE THE SHOW WAS CANCLED. I LOVE IT. IT IS NOT RACIAL. IF PEOPLE DON’T WANT TO HER IT DON’T WATCH IT. GEORGE LOPEZ IS MY FAVORITE SHOW!!! EVERY NIGHT MY WHOLE FAMILY SITS DOWN IS THE FAMILY ROOM TO WATCH IT!!!

  35. CC Says:

I had really liked the George Lopez show on TV and had thought Lopez was a really funny guy. I like that a Hispanic family was put on TV. I don’t think the show was canceled due to it being about a Latino family and not being a “white” show, I mean hey, the Cosby show was on for years because it was just a very good show and Bill Cosby an incredibly funny man who reached the masses with his universal humor about family.

I just recently watched portions of the HBO George Lopez stand up and my whole image and likeability of him was blown. He was way out of line I thought. I mean I love people of all races. His attitudes and bigotry and basically hatred that he was spewing out really turned me off. I had no idea the man had that much animosity against white people, or Caucasian I like to say. There were a few things I thought were funny in the show, but all in all I thought his attitude was way out in left field and I wondered if it might hurt him professionally as I watched it, and do speculate if his horrible attitudes he displayed did not help contribute to the demise of his show. Attitudes and tirades like his does not help draw people of different races together that’s for sure. I mean this is America, a melting pot, we are not all Latino, all white, all black, etc. etc., we are different races all come together in one land. There’s nothing wrong with having pride in your heritage and culture, but the horrible things and hatefulness and well, outright racisim he was projecting forth was not good at all, and not funny.

  36. fernando Says:

This show simply brought my family together everynight, we recorded several of the shows. I have to thank GL and the cast for bringing my family back together and make us laugh, We miss you George and we hope to see your show again. in the mean time we will go to one of your stand up shows.

  37. Zach nadwodny Says:

i am white and im not big in this race stuff, everybody is the same. Now the cancellation of this show sux! for that george lopez would have to be the funniest show i have ever watched by far. George lopez never gets old and its sad that this has happened

  38. Kelli Says:

    Hello Latino community!
I am an African American woman who absolutely loves the George Lopez show. My ten year old daughter is the one who sold me on the show. I heard her laughing hysterically one night and I just had to see what all the commotion was about. Well the laughter was courtesy of George Lopez. I just find his style of comedy so clever and refreshing. I think any race can relate to disfunction within a family and all the problems and concerns that come with that. I am only sorry that I have only gotten to know the show via Nick at Nite and not sooner. I encourage all the latino and hispanic communities to continue to support your comedians and entertainers. I think times will get better for your race. Just continue to support each other and put out the excellent products, services and shows that you know how to do. I love your race of people and admire you and completely relate to your struggles. Be blessed in the new year and Merry Christmas!

  39. Adam Says:

Wow. I never knew that it was george lopez was actually cancelled. How the hell did the even happen? Georgle lopez is the funniest guy ive ever heard and his show is just amazing! Abc is just a bunch of fags wanting all white people to run all their shows because they think it’ll make them “better”. I hope abc goes bankrupt so then george lopez will be okay that the show was cancelled.

  40. Juan Says:

Hello everyone. It’s sad that GL got cancelled. Even if ABC’s decision was made purely based on finances, they centainly sent the wrong message to the public. -Perhaps that’s what they wanted in the end. ELIANE Talks about “The supremacy of the white culture” You just sound like a person with a low self-steem and inferior intelect when you make that comment. You put all the white race in a box. Education is the key here, not race. Look at the Asian people in our colleges and universities, they have certainly surpassed the white students by far when it comes to academic achievement – and income.
Again, it not about race. Education is the key for any individual or group of people who wish to better themselves.
Race will only be a factor if you allow it to be. There are masses out there who believe that they belong to the middle class, when in fact they are part of the working class. They claim to be superior, and they barely have a high school diploma (if any). You see the trend here? It’s not about race people, it is about getting up in the morning diligently to take on the challenges that a school, or college have to offer.

  41. Juan Says:

This show was the best thing that happend to tv i dont know why they had to cancel it well in not happy for the reason it was cancelled i hope one day he comes back and show all the races judgmental people what a real show is all about. i think george is a great comidian and yes im mexican and i love all the shows weather its latin or white they are all the same to me.

  42. johnny Says:

If george lopez is crying racism he should go back to mexico to try and make money. Im moving to sweden in to months. This melting pot of a country is a joke!

  43. VoiceOfReason Says:

I’ve had the George Lopez show crammed down my throat on Nick at Night for the past few years and to me the only issue of racism here lies in the show itself. People seem to forget that not just whites can be racists.

The George Lopez show is one of the most racially insensitive TV shows I can even think of, and just because he’s not white nobody dares to call him on it. Anyone can be a racist, including George Lopez. How can he complain about racial discrimination when he tried to make it a laughing matter in his own TV show?

  44. margaret Says:

That is sad that george was cancelled.
But all the talking abour latinos, white, and blacks..HaHaHa All of you need to leave this country that you can and destroyed. Indians were the first people here and the mexicans were here before the white and now the white wants everybody out? I think the white need to go back where they came from.

  45. margaret Says:

thank you johnny for leaving. One less white in this Native american country..

  46. margaret Says:

WE ARE NATIVE AMERICANS EVERYBODY SHOULD LEAVE THIS COUNTRY. WE WERE HERE FIRST AND ALL OF YOU HAVE COME AND DESTROYED OUR BEATIFUL LAND.

  47. Antonio Says:

I watch this show everyday with my family, my parents don’t know english, yet learn from the George Lopez show. In my opinion this show was WAY better than the Cosby Show,Fresh Prince,CSI,24,Bernie Mac Show,2 1/2 men,According to Jim, and the Jeffersons. BRING BACK GEORGE!!

  48. victor Says:

racism has always, and will be around. We cant blame the wrong, becaouse of the ignorance and the blindness of there cold hearts, all we have to do is walk with our heads up high and live to help one another. We will trample over the snake someday,Obama did. So let george lopez back in the show pinche haters

  49. Rolanda Says:

George Lopez is a no-talent racist. He is trying to turn everyone against eachother and start a race war! This is not funny, and very un-American. Boycott George Lopez.

  50. brick Says:

I just happened to catch George Lopez on HBO and while watching his routine I thought to myself “this is one of the most racist individuals I have ever seen on tv”. I googled the words “George Lopez Racist” and the search engine actually automatically brought up the phrase as I was typing it, which shows that a large number of other people have had the same thought and searched the term. I have never really paid any attention to him on television before so I would have otherwise had no reason to think negatively of him, but in watching his comedy show I am honestly sickened by his attitude towards America and equally sickened by all of the followers that I have noticed in this thread. Why is it that you have such hatred towards what you consider “white America”? Some people should stop whining about being “held down” and start realizing that maybe it takes a little more hard work and dedication to measure up to the American standard. From what I’ve seen George Lopez is an antagonizing racist and no someone who Latin America should be identifying themselves with.

  51. Kathy Amick. Says:

I get so discusted with people. White people are not opposed to Latino’s or them sharing or being proud of their culture, white Americans are sick of illegals comming here illegally and burning our American flag and flying thiers over ours. What kind of appreciation is that for the USA? And why are they biting the hand that feeds them? And George Lopez needs to stop being bitter and blaming his woes on White and Black America. We were all created by one creator. Do you think He loves one race more than the other? No He loves us all equally, but He also said obey the laws of the land. Dude are we suppose to just surrender our country to another country? Or are we all as Americans no matter what race we are suppose to stand up for old glory? And the constitution that says all men are created equal? That does not mean that we are suppose to allow another country to come in here and overthrow our government and do away with all our laws, that is called anarchy. Stop spitting on our American flag and stop putting white and black Americans down. Dont put Hispanic Americans down either. Dude lets just be Americans and stick together for America and our laws and flag no matter what ethnicity or race we are.

  52. joann Vitiello Says:

I am an American Mexican, the daughter of a migrant worker who marched with Cesar Chavez. Who, as a child worked the fields in order to understand the value of dollar . Our family was featured in a documentary named “Come over to our house” (Galindo Family.) I am disqusted by George Lopez! Mexican American people are not represented in his comedy nor HIS politics. He may have a voice but he does not have an audience that represents those who have suffered the disparites, once experienced by those of old. I proudly say, that America has evolved into a country that I am proud and blessed to say is my home. I recently was blessed to travel and take my mother abroad. We found ourselves on the streets of London, my mother lost for words, stood quietly looking out at the tall buildings that stood before her. I hestiated to ask what my mother was thinking, when I asked my mother, she responded ” I am so glad to be an American.” I looked at her in astonishment. In silence, I thought you are in LONDON, far away from the fields, WHAT!!!, Really!!!!!!!!!. However, In respect, I stood quietly and waited for for her to continue. She said ” I have endured a lot, but no where near what these people have endured. I have studied the history, I am a free christian, there are those who do not agree with America’s policy and I too have found myself not agreeing, but we are free to not agree. People die to come to American , I am proud to call myself an American. I stood in silence wondering what triggered those words. I imagined another response, one that spoke amazement, excitement, astonishment. Imagine my response, when I heard the words of a women who has raised me, speaking gratitude of being an American. Therefore, when I hear George Lopez scream out his logic as if it is the universal chicano understanding, I want to scream SCREW YOU. I hate that he speaks so uneducated, unfortunately he lacks true chicano upbringing. So, he was raised by his Grandmother because his mother was unwilling to be hismother. Maybe, its due to the fact his grandmother raised a bunch of irresponsible losers, This is evident by how he describes his family. This is not the RAZA, we as Chicano’were raised by people who suffered, worked, in order not to take a part of the welfare market. Which according to my grandmother was a disgrace, but not according to George Lopez politics who was a welfare baby. Sorry George, not all chicanos lived your life, most of us had our mothers raise us. Most of us were raised to understand the meaning of a dollar. I am glad you were cancelled, maybe you will understand that WE ARE AMERICAN!!!!!!, we fight for freedom and peace under the American Flag. If George Lopez disagrees maybe he should go to Mexico where liberty and justice is acceptable to the mexicans?????????????????????????

  53. larry Says:

I got nothing against the George Lopez show it was mildly entertaining I found his treatment of his mother and her treatment of him over the top. George had no problem firing his TV daughter Masiela Lusha for no good reason and replaced her with a girl pushing 30 pretending to be a teen. shows get dropped every year and its a part of life it was not race motivated it was just business

So, all you whiners, how many shows for “European-Americans” do they have on Univision? There are an abundant number of television stations that cater to the Mexican-American demographic. Why then do you insist on infiltrating the mainstream media?

  56. jean Says:

I don’t care if the show was black, asian, latino or whatever – I watched it every week because of the grandmother. She was so funny

  57. ricardo Says:

If you all only knew that Mr Lopez is racist himself about blacks and especially whites I know for a fact I know him and I know you all wont believe me anyways but he is.

  58. ricardo Says:

    I agree with Joann Vitirllo

  59. Anon Says:

I’ve watched the GL show several times and I don’t find it to be that good. Plenty of shows get canceled. If a latino show gets canceled, it has to be due to race? You people playing the race card need to experience the world a bit more and think before you mouth off. You sound really stupid and make it harder to criticize actions that are really racist.

  60. t-bone Says:

The rhetoric behind the comment pointed out in the story is due to the fact that this country(USA) is 75% white.Oh,by the way, freedom is an inherited right and not something the white man made. But lets stay on topic and look at the Nielson ratings. If they ain’t(The Nielson families) watching your show then it ain’t good for the advertisers. Keep in mind advertisers underwrite commercial television. Have been since day one.
GL was good. Ground breaking? IMHO, no. But I liked it.However I don’t watch regular tv anymore. I’m more into NPR and listening to Bill Moyers and the BBC news broadcast. Good luck to George Lopez cause he’s talented and I’m sure he’ll be around a long time.

  61. DONT_HATE Says:

Sorry guys, but SHUT THE F*CK UP!!!If you don’t like the show don’t watch it.And just to clearify George hates on everybody even he’s own race.So WHITE PEOPLE stop complaining, and don’t take it personally you sound like a bunch of crybabies a BTW Latin Americans are DOMINATING the percentage USA.So don’t hate just congratulate.*This message is protected by a hater blocker*:^P

  62. SAUL Says:

  63. Zach Says:

    Fuck george lopez.
God I hate him so much I want to throw him in a barrel of gasoline and light his acclaimed “American Mexican” ass and his atrocity of comedy bullshit into a glorious fiery blaze.
Watching him on fire would be less of an eyesore than watching him on television.

You claim that you like him because it puts “cultural diversity” in television. I have no problem with that, I don’t hate him because he’s mexican. What I do hate about him is that HE ISN’T ENTERTAINING. It wouldn’t be so bad if he didn’t suck so much cock, figuratively and literally.
Leave the comedy to dave chapelle and carlos mencia.
At least Mencia can officially call himself america’s mexican. He doesn’t say fuck george bush and glory to mexico and spain, that smug little shit.

  64. csepuya@hotmail.com Says:

I cry not. For Christmas, my son gifted me with George L’s reruns! So, I will always have a bit of George in his family in my house!

  65. Jacob Says:

Errr… important show? The reason it was cancelled was cause it wasn’t making enough money. If the reason is because most people don’t find mexican humor funny, that’d be why it didn’t make money. but I tend to enjoy humor of other cultures. George Lopez just doesn’t do it. It’s just blatant racism. It’s different when you say “whitey got power” than george lopez’ version of “it’s okay to hit whitey with a golf club cause they’re white”. I only found the grandmother to be funny and that’s just one character out of a whole show.
Just george lopez in general is annoying. Overly arrogant and insulting to anyone who isn’t the same as him. He even insults mexicans who AREN’T racist. He thinks that everything he’s on he’s gotta announce himself to the cliche’d low rider song. Seriously, get your own theme.

  66. Tom Says:

Vitiello is a very right, Privalage is not a white only thing. If you see yourself as a victom, you are. I had what most would call a shitty childhood I saw no privageges for my skin color. I worked at meanial jobs and served in the military side by side with blacks, white, browns, yellows of all religions and backgrounds. I was not paid or treated any better or worse than anyone else. the only sterio types that apply is when a person applies it to themselve thru dress, actions or behavior. I learned that good people are good people. All colors of peoples have suffered at the hands and policies of others. More often than not by those of the same race and/or religion. No one is immune.
People have no better chance to be themselves and rise in stature ANYWHERE in the world. The US is special and should be protected.

  67. jake Says:

Race!??? Are you joking? Lopez’s so called comedy is almost completely based on making fun of white people! This guy is nothing but a racist with absolutely zero talent! You can’t watch anything he does without jokes about the whites. I am so sick and tired of the double standard in this country. Hopefully TBS will wise up and cancel his ridiculous, white hating late night show too!

  68. Jose Says:

It’s true that I dont have to watch the late night show, BUT, I would much rather have something remotely entertaining to watch. His humor doesn’t necessarily mean that’s he’s racist. Chappelle, Jo Koy, Mencia, Russell Peter’s comedy ragged on different races(included their own). You just need to know that it’s a certain type of comedy and not take it to heart. I’m complaining because HE SUCKS and rather watch something else. I suppose I should complain to TBS. Put on Fresh Prince, Friends, Save by the bell, whatever, just take him off. I only watch his shows sometimes ONLY because of his guests, but im seriously sickened by his delivery of joke, esp that stupid face that he makes like he thinks it’s funny or something.

  69. Brandon Says:

Racist! white american’s and Black american’s should be worried. Chicano, mexican, latino, whatever you want to call them are taking over. pretty soon the U.S. will be a 100% spanish speaking over populated country of Mexicans. They run across the border and make babies to get them citizenship, in hopes they can all get in later. White people, Black people, get with them and start breeding out their own race. Soon all that will be left is the mexican part. Wake up america. We’ve lost this war. Mexicans are winning and their winning fast. Bordertown AKA El Paso, I remember 15 years ago, 20% was a mexican, now it’s 91% mexican. Look at the show’s on tv. Every other cartoon is teaching your children Spanish. They are getting you ready. I am getting out, I know when I’ve been beat and Mexicans are going to run this country and turn it into their own Mexico. Forget terrorism, they’ll just breed us out. Keep a blind eye to it if you will, but it’s the truth and it will happen.

  70. Culo Says:

You say he got cancelled because the networks are racists?! Well isn’t that the first excuse we (as latinos) run to when things don’t go our way. Could it be that the ratings weren’t that good? Maybe his jokes were (like Mencia’s), dry, not funny and mediocre at best? NO! That could never be, because he’s one of us right?! WRONG!! C’mon mi gente, get your collective heads out of your a$$es.

  71. Jim Says:

I miss the show (although I still watch the reruns) mainly because Constance Marie and Masiela Lusha are drop-dead-gorgeous!!! Constance Marie has the greatest butt in the world!!!

  72. valerie Says:

OMG!! i love GL i have all his dvd’s he is comedy the person who let him go was just jealous of GL, he is a dum ass for letting GL go, but i know GL will be fine, he is smart and will find better shows to do, love all the cast at the GL show.

  73. josepe Says:

because of his ass now , Mexican people don’t want to talk in English because his ignorant self told them it was OK ,i don’t like him I think he is a big embarrassment to the Latin community I understand you have to be proud of your heritage, but you can be proud and still live a good life in the USA , it doesn’t help when somebody of his magnitude talks about how great Mexicans are, if he is so proud of being Mexican he should go back to Mexico then and take all of the sorry ass people that think being proud is being ignorant

  74. Lopez_wetback Says:

George Lopez is a typical racist beaner and anyone that likes lopez is probably lacking any form of education and more than likely on welfare.

  75. John Says:

That last comment is racist and frankly uncalled for. Either you are a pathetic white man, jealous that George Lopez, a Mexican-American is more successful than you or you are just a sad human being. Either way, you are an asshole.

On to ABC canceling “George Lopez”. For the network to cancel the show is beyond me. What’s more is they drop “George Lopez” for a cheesy show based off of Gieco commercials. I don’t even believe the show made it more than two seasons. George Lopez still has millions of fans who as a body of people want the show to return. I for one love the humor of the show and watch the reruns all the time and don’t think that the ending was appropriate for a series finale.

  76. Sasaki Says:

OK, I liked the George Lopez show. I feel that the show did reflect on “Chicanos” and may have at times looked a little racist. I’m going to say this and probably be bashed for it. If Mexicans would come over to our country respectfully and go by America’s customs to become a citizen, I think they would not be bashed as much as they are today. I live in New Mexico and know that not every Mexican family is poor or has a mediocre job in a factory. There are respectable businessmen and women. George Lopez, in all of his comedy talks about the Chicano/Mexican people to be poor with crappy jobs and disobedient children. It really sucked for the show, but seeing him George Lopez Tonight Show and throwing racist comments left and right does not help his case.

  77. Dominick Says:

Hey, here’s an idea, don’t come to a majority white country and then complain that it doesn’t cater to Mexicans.

I’m just glad that I will be dead when you guys finally overrun this place, the last thing that we need is another Mexico…

I mean, try to remember why you or your parents left there and came here in the first place, LOL!
