The Magical Night of Cabo Polonio
Filed in archive Latin Travel on December 15, 2006
After the Quiet Sunset of Cabo Polonio, comes the bewitching darkness. There's no electricity there, remember? The only places provided with electrical power are the lighthouse and the police station. The inns have power generators, turned on around 8 P.M, and turned off around 2 A.M.
So, after dinner, you can wander the small sand streets, completely in the dark. The only light comes from the moon; it's advisable to take a flash light. Here and there you'll see candle lights, through the windows and doors of the ranchos. That enhances even more the magical atmosphere.
The darkness allows you to see the most starry sky you've ever seen; you can easily find the most known constellations, and it's also easy to discern the Milky Way.
You should end your walk at the beach. Listening to the sound of the braking waves is a very intense experience; you'll feel overwhelmed by the immensity and the power of Nature.
Now, if you're lucky, you'll have a chance to watch one of the marvels of the sea: the Noctiluca. These bio-luminescent organisms cause the lighting of the sea. The vision of this phenomena, through the deep night of Cabo Polonio, is almost supernatural.

I have a few funny stories about some things that happened to me during my visit to Cabo Polonio; I'll share them in the near future.
