Mexican director Alejandro González Iñárritu affirmed today that "The United States are ruled by a fascist" and that George W. Bush government manipulates the public and the media. González Iñárritu made these declarations during a conference in the Globalfest Festival, in the Italian island of Ischia, according to the local media.
"The United States is a country governed by a fascist. The way the Bush government controls and manipulates the people and the media is something so sophisticated that it's crazy", he said.
The producer of the trilogy Amores Perros (2000), 21 grams (2003) and Babel (2006) said he's fascinated by the United States, but he thinks that it's a country where "many contradictions exist". According to González Iñárritu, "half of the United States citizens is against the Government and hates what it is being done outside the borders, and the other half is subjugated".
The film director explained that in Los Angeles, where he lives, "some have placed the american flag in their garden with the phrase ' long life to Bush', while others write against the Government". In his opinion, this situation "increases even more the nationalism in the United States", which he considers "a plague".
I mostly agree with him, although I don't quite understand why he says nationalism is a plague.
